AVEVA VPE Workbench

Create, use and report on engineering project information

AVEVA VPE Workbench is a scalable Oracle database application which contains and manages the evolving engineering definitions and interconnections of all tagged items in a plant, such as lines, valves, vessels, instruments, equipment, electric motors, junction boxes and MCCs. Engineering data and properties are entered and handled within a completely integrated database schema.

VPE Workbench manages not only the quality and consistency of engineering information, but also its interdisciplinary flow within the application and its availability to external systems.

Business benefits

  • Improved project efficiency
Controlled flow of evolving design information, with strict change management and change highlighting between versions of data and documents, enable efficient parallel inter-department working, saving time and costs.
  • Automatic data checking reduces man-hours and rework
Sophisticated links with AVEVA PDMS and AVEVA VPRM keep plant design and materials management synchronised with the evolving engineering specification.
  • Improved project quality
Automated creation of design deliverables from a single consistent dataset ensures accurate and consistent documents for construction, commissioning and handover.
  • Global project execution
Support for globally distributed projects allows optimum resource allocation.

Engineering data is sub-divided into multiple categories,
covering common and type-specific data

  • Easy to adopt
Easy-to-use user interface allows rapid project start-up and encourages wider use.
  • Integration with upstream or downstream business systems
Powerful Read and Write API’s (Application Programming Interfaces) enable seamless data integration with other business systems, while respecting user access rights, information approval, status management and change notification.

Powerful workflow management controls data through each stage of development. A flexible, item-based lifecycle controls the visibility of released information between departments and can be customised to your project's specific needs. Data change between versions is highlighted.

Engineering information may be used in a consistent and controlled manner by co-located or geographically dispersed project teams. Advanced data and workflow management capabilities allow engineering changes to be managed, tracked, audited, and distributed seamlessly across the whole project team. All engineering deliverables, P&IDs, datasheets and reports can be securely and appropriately managed.

Tailored modules enable the most efficient creation, control and use of engineering data by each specialist engineering discipline:

Process module

AVEVA VPE’s process module allows the user to:
  • define heat and material balance
  • develop functional specifications for equipment and instruments
  • define pipelines and piping component requirements
  • produce process deliverable documents.

Instrumentation and control module

AVEVA VPE’s instrument module supports the Fieldbus network system and allows the user to:
  • specify instrumentation requirements
  • define control system philosophy and requirements
  • develop detailed control systems design
  • design instrument and control system cabling
  • produce instrument and control system deliverable documents.

Electrical module

AVEVA VPE’s electrical module allows the user to:
  • specify detailed electrical requirements
  • design the power distribution system
  • design and specify electrical cabling
  • produce electrical engineering deliverable documents.

Mechanical module

AVEVA VPE’s mechanical module allows the user to:
  • specify mechanical engineering requirements
  • define key design relationships between items
  • produce mechanical engineering deliverable documents.

Piping module

This module is used to produce pipe specifications, standard insulation and tracing specs, flange ratings and other information needed to support the design of lines, equipment and instrument systems in the appropriate discipline modules.
