AVEVA Joins the Business Software Alliance as a New Worldwide Member

8 June 2010

AVEVA Group plc (LSE:AVV), one of the world's leading providers of engineering data and design IT systems to the plant, power and marine industries, today announced that it has joined the Business Software Alliance (BSA), which serves as the voice of the world's software industry and its hardware partners on a wide range of business and policy affairs.

"It is with great pleasure that we can announce AVEVA's membership in the Business Software Alliance," said Richard Longdon, Chief Executive of AVEVA. "BSA is a strong voice for the software industry on key policy, business and legal issues - from software piracy to cybersecurity."

"Software piracy is a major industry concern," he continued. "It is not a victimless crime; it damages businesses like AVEVA, which create technologies that the modern world relies on, and it imperils the livelihoods of the skilled professionals we employ. Even more dangerous in the engineering industries that AVEVA serves is the fact that people using pirated or counterfeit software can put lives at risk. That's why BSA's work is so important, and we look forward to working with it and its other members to promote the interests of the technology industry itself and the many businesses and individuals we support."

Robert Holleyman, president and CEO of Business Software Alliance, said: "BSA and AVEVA share a common goal in protecting an online marketplace where citizens and businesses can use information tools with confidence, by making electronic commerce and governance safe and secure. We are excited about AVEVA becoming member of BSA because it validates the truly international dimension of the technology industry's voice."

The Business Software Alliance is the foremost organization dedicated to promoting a safe and legal digital world. BSA programs foster technology innovation through education and policy initiatives that promote copyright protection, cyber security, trade and e-commerce. BSA's member companies, like AVEVA, invest billions of dollars a year in local economies and deliver next-generation solutions that help people around the world become more productive, connected and secure.

"AVEVA will no doubt prove to be a critical partner by lending its voice to important policy, education and enforcement initiatives that foster IT growth in the global marketplace," said BSA's Holleyman. "The success of our organization and our industry relies largely on success of our member companies - and AVEVA has proven itself to be not only a success, but an industry leader. We look forward to working with this dynamic company."
